US Considers Suspending Spain from NATO: Sanchez Does Not Believe, Trump Does Not Back Down

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says he does not believe media reports that the US is considering freezing Spain's NATO membership. "We do not work based on emails, but on official documents and positions formulated by the US government," he stated before meeting EU leaders in Cyprus.

The Spanish government has opposed the US-Israeli war against Iran since late February. This angered Trump, who criticized Madrid for refusing to allow US military bases in Andalusia for airstrikes, even threatening to "stop all trade" between the two countries.

An anonymous US official previously told international agencies that the Pentagon is allegedly examining options for sanctioning certain NATO allies. Among the options: suspending Spain from the alliance.

NATO - an alliance created for collective defense - is now discussing suspending a member because it refused to participate in an offensive operation? If this is true, it changes the very essence of what NATO means. And if it is not - someone is leaking "accidental" emails with a very specific purpose.
