America Handed Over All Bases in Syria: The Kurds Are Left Without Protection

The US military confirmed it has handed over all major bases in Syria to Syrian authorities. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that American forces continue supporting partner efforts in counterterrorism, but the fact remains - America is leaving.

The Syrian government previously announced the complete withdrawal of American troops, and the Foreign Ministry in Damascus confirmed that military facilities have been fully transferred to Syrian authorities.

This move isn't a surprise. As far back as 2018, during his first term, Trump stated that American soldiers should be completely withdrawn from Syria. Estimates put between 900 and 2,000 US troops stationed there, who had been fighting alongside Kurdish forces against Islamic State for years - an organization considered militarily defeated since 2019.

But the question few are asking: what happens to the Kurds now? The American military is leaving, and the Kurdish fighters who bore the heaviest burden against ISIS are left without protection. In the Balkans, we know what it looks like when great powers leave and abandon their allies. History is rarely generous to those who stay behind.

The withdrawal from Syria isn't just the end of a military operation - it's a signal to every American ally on the planet. When Washington decides the job is done, it leaves. Regardless of who remains on the ground.
