Pat Todd is the man who held the microphone of the Lazy Cowgirls for over twenty years, a Los Angeles punk outfit active from 1983 to 2004 and one of the pillars of Californian roots-punk. When the band broke up, he did not retreat. As early as 2005 he founded the Rankoutsiders, with Nick Alexander and Eric Christiansen on guitars, Rick Johnson on bass and Bob Deagle on drums.

Their first release was a double album, The Outskirts of Your Heart from 2007, which for a new band's debut is a decision with attitude. The music is less cowpunk than it was with the Cowgirls, closer to straight rock and roll at punk tempo, but with the same decisive element: a voice that sounds like it is singing on the last night of something.

The Rankoutsiders are one of those names that never had radio and yet keep recording and keep touring. This is a scene where success is measured in years, not in streams. When a band like that reaches Belgrade, the audience that shows up usually knows exactly why.
